What you need to know

Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) Star Ratings are conducted by professionals using purpose-built software to meet the mandatory energy efficiency requirements for homes and major renovations based on the National Construction Code.
You will generally need a NatHERS certificate if you are building a new home, townhouse, apartment, or undertaking a major renovation/extension in Australia.
You may also want to get a detailed Energy Assessment for your existing home to make it more efficient and comfortable.
You need to obtain this certificate during the design phase, well before construction actually starts. Your builder can organize the certificate or you may decide to get involved in assessing the Energy Efficiency of your future Home.
The documents required to conduct an accurate assessment are the floor plans, the elevations and the window schedules of the dwelling.
